step 1: get your site ready for submitting
In this step you must prepare your site (or the part of it you are uploading), to be uploaded to the internet. There are three requirements that need to be checked off before your site is ready for submission:
- The size of the unzipped site folder is 20mb or under
- the first page of the site is called index.html
- I have converted my site folder to a zip file
requirement 1: The size of the unzipped site folder is 20mb or under
- Locate the place you have stored your site folder on your hard drive
- Right-click on the folder to bring up a drop-down menu
- From the drop-down menu, select properties
- When the properties window comes up, check that under Size the number displayed is 20mb or less.
- If the displayed number is 20mb of less, than you may proceed to step 5
- If the displayed number is over 20mb, then press OK to close the window, and take steps to reduce the size of your site.
Once you have taken thse steps, go through these instructions again to re-check the folder size until it is 20mb or under
- Press OK to close the properties window and check off requirement 1.
requirement 2: The first page of the site is called index.html
In every web site, the first page a browser (such as Internet Explorer of Firefox) expects to find should be called index.html. Even if the first page of your site is called your home page or your splash page, it must still be called index.html for it to work properly.
- Locate the place you have stored your site folder on your hard drive
- Double-click the site folder to see it's contents
- check within to see if the HTML page set to be the first page visitors see upon entering your site is called index.html.
- If there is a page called index.html within your site folder, than you can proceed to step 4
- If there isn't a page called index.html within your site folder, than rename the first page in your site index.html
- You can now check the checkbox for requirement 2 and proceed to requirement 3
requirement 3: I have converted my site folder to a zip file
- Locate the place you have stored your site folder on your hard drive
- Right-click on the folder to bring up a drop-down menu
- From the drop-down menu, select send to » compressed (zipped) folder
- a zipped, or compressed copy of your site folder will be made, and can be found in the same place your site folder is stored
- It has the same name as your site folder, but the folder icon has a zip on it, indicating it has been compressed
- Locate the zipped copy of your site folder
- Once you have found the zipped copy of your folder, you can check the box by Requirement 3
